ARISE (Accelerating Resilient Innovative Sustainable Elimination of NTDs) /

This programme is funded by the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation and runs from August 2021 until November 2022.

The ARISE programme focuses on control and elimination efforts for two Neglected Tropical Diseases: Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) and Schistosomiasis. Our work covers four countries in Africa, including Mozambique, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania/Zanzibar.

The emphasis of CIFF’s ‘emergency’ investment following the sudden end of the UK Government funded Ascend programme was to help governments to continue their preventive work, therefore the bulk of funding was provided for Mass Drug distributions.

  • To date, the project has delivered 20 million preventive treatments of praziquantel, albendazole and mebendazole to at risk populations.
  • A key feature of the CIFF support was the involvement of independent coverage surveys (ICS)
  • In addition the Mass Drug Administrations, CIFF has allowed the project to support disease assessments to help countries identify more accurately where the high risk populations are located, and to update the endemicity maps for LF and Schistosomiasis. These include Transmission Assessment Surveys for LF and precision mapping exercises for Schistosomiasis.
