Impact of international procurement on Ukraine anti-corruption efforts recognised /

The impact of international procurement upon an anti-corruption programme led by the Ministry of Health Ukraine and supported by international procurement agents including Crown Agents has been recognised in Kyiv Post, a Ukrainian English-language newspaper. Crown Agents performed the procurement for two oncology programmes for the 2014 budget, through which over 90% of line items were procured at cheaper prices than in 2014, leading to total savings of over 45% (UAH 500 million).

The Kyiv Post article outlines how international agents have disrupted the cycles of corruption in health procurement and delivered better outcomes for patients. The article states that “this year, for the first time in independent Ukraine’s history, the country’s citizens have every chance of getting the medication they require, in the right amounts, and in good time.”

Crown Agents Director of Supply Chain Services, Bryan Richmond welcomed this positive news coverage, commenting:

“Crown Agents is immensely proud to be working alongside Dr Suprun and her team at the Ministry of Health to make a real difference to people’s lives in Ukraine. Life-saving drugs are now being supplied to a greater number of Ukrainian citizens, improving their quality of life. Healthcare gains will strengthen Ukraine’s economic well-being and prove to the people that the Government is delivering on its mandate.”
