Impact Statement 2021

2021 has seen the world continue to adapt amidst the changes and challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis, and numerous conflicts – the work of Crown Agents has risen to this challenge.

In 2021, we have focused on tackling COVID-19 vaccine inequality, working with the UK Government and others, to ensure countries across the globe have access to critical doses of the vaccine. Our logistics teams have managed an incredibly complex supply chain environment, overcoming snow blizzards, rough seas and tropical storms whilst keeping all 4.5 million doses at their required temperatures to ensure not a single vaccine was spoiled.

Yet, we know that getting the vaccine into country is only half the story. Through our Health Pooled Fund work in South Sudan, and our partnership with GAVI, The Vaccine Alliance, in Zimbabwe, we are supporting community sensitisation and helping to combat misinformation around the vaccine, so that more countries can reach their needed vaccination levels.

Whilst we have a long history of supporting governments at the onset of an emergency, we also remain engaged in countries afterwards and are committed to assisting with recovery and restoration of pre-crisis patterns of life. Working through a network of local partners, this year we have continued to provide support to populations dealing with the protracted crisis in Myanmar and have adapted our assistance throughout COVID-19 and the military coup. Our teams have also helped restore a sense of normality in northeast Syria through restoration projects and as we move into 2022, we are responding to the growing humanitarian need across Ethiopia.

Looking to the year ahead, I am incredibly proud that we will be continuing our work supporting governments resolve the most challenging and intractable issues, from reforming public financial management in Nepal; eliminating Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) across East and Southern Africa; delivering health procurement reform in Ukraine to electrifying health facilities across Africa. Crown Agents will continue to bring its vast experience in operations and systems change to respond to the great global challenges that lie ahead.
