Strong, efficient and transparent government institutions are fundamental to a nation's economic growth and social development. Without this transparency and integrity, the rule of law can be undermined and the institutions that are central to economic growth can be weakened.
Crown Agents has been involved in institutional strengthening and reform for many years. Our approach for enhancing transparency is to ensure that measures to build capacity and strengthen organisational management are taken alongside activities to limit corruption. In many of our programmes, we help countries achieve compliance with ambitious international standards such as the WCO's Arusha Declaration and the European Union's accession requirements.
We have an outstanding track record in training staff and managers in ethics and integrity and we have supported governments to develop and implement anti-corruption strategies, regulations and codes of conduct. We can also help reengineer an organisation's internal and external business processes to maximise transparency.
We focus our activities on building strong institutions and transparent processes, but we recognise that risks remain, even within the most sophisticated institutions. So we also work with our partners, through strengthening management controls and assurance frameworks, to expand their internal capacity to detect and investigate.
