Institutional and organisational development

The quality of governance and a government's ability to foster sustainable economic growth depend on the effectiveness and strength of public institutions. We work at all levels of government to improve effectiveness, transparency and accountability.

Our approach to institutional development combines technical expertise in core areas of public finance management with a strong understanding of the process of change. We work in partnership with our clients, recognising that successful change is always driven and managed from within. We address:

  • The institutional context, including legal and regulatory frameworks, government policies and the balance between available resources and stated objectives
  • Strategy and management, including goal and mission statements, business planning, decision making and participation
  • Organisational structures, including alignment between goals and structures, streamlining, lines of accountability and decentralisation
  • Organisational systems, including financial management systems and audit, information management systems and monitoring and evaluation systems
  • Human Resources, including training and staff development, skills gaps, grading and job descriptions, remuneration, recruitment, ethos, culture and attitudinal change

We deliver solutions that are context-specific - based on international best practice, yet tailored to suit each client's specific political, economic and administrative environment. Our results bring benefits at every level - to individual organisations and to the entire framework of policies, laws and customs within which they operate.
