Our story begins in the middle of the 18th century, a period of British expansion

Establishment of London's first police force, the Bow Street Runners.
The Runners were founded and funded by the celebrated satirical writer and lawyer, Henry Fielding. Initially made up of just six constables, the force quickly became feared by London’s criminals.

First recorded usage of the term 'crown agent'

Richard Cumberland, crown agent for Nova Scotia, whose memoirs provide the first recorded usage of the term.

The first Joint Agents General for Crown Colonies are appointed - forerunners today's Crown Agents

The offices in Cannon Row, London (close to Parliament), that the Joint Agents occupied for their first 26 years.
