The ability to hold the executive to account for performance is a crucial feature of the process of governing. Recognising this, we work with members of the legislature and civil society to develop an understanding of technical areas; such as public expenditure, debt management and the budget process; in order to become participative and effective stakeholders in the policy process.
As well as sensitisation programmes, we help develop consultative processes to understand policy objectives and how they can be monitored and evaluated. As holder of the ultimate oversight function, we work alongside national audit offices across the world to develop their capacity to provide independent oversight of the budget cycle. In particular we have helped carry out value-for-money audits of specific programmes and for entire government ministries and agencies.
