Crown Agents to improve access to HIV/AIDS commodities to millions in Nigeria

17 May 2011

Crown Agents Nigeria has been appointed as procurement agent by Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN) to provide procurement and customs clearing services to the Sexually and Reproductive Health (SRH)/HIV integrated service programme for two and half years, beginning in July 2011, under the Global Fund HIV/AIDS grant.

The primary focus of the grant is to procure and deliver commodities that support scale-up of SRH/HIV integrated services to about 2 million people in 37 States of Nigeria by December 2012. It is also aimed at scaling up provision of anti-retroviral treatment and related services such as counselling and testing, prevention of mother-to-child transmission and community care to ensure that a comprehensive package of HIV/AIDS treatment, care and support is available in all parts of the country.

PPFN, a non-government organisation was nominated as a primary recipient by Country Coordinating Mechanism following the withdrawal of Access Bank and the Christian Health Association of Nigeria. Initially, PPFN was a sub-recipient to Society for Family Health under the Global Fund.
