Crown Agents is in the process of providing 10 urgently needed Bailey bridges, valued at £1.3 million, to Pakistan as part of a Department for International Development (DFID) funded initiative. Close liaison between Crown Agents' offices in UK, Pakistan and Singapore facilitated a quick response to DFID Pakistan's initial request for available stocks.
The bridges are part of a pre-agreed project worth £7.5 million which has been accelerated because the recent floods have washed away hundreds of bridges in the country. These ten bridges will help restore part of the seriously damaged infrastructure.
Twenty-five 40' containers left Tilbury by ship last Monday for arrival in Karachi on 23 September for onward transportation to Khyber Pakhutunkhawa and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas. The remainder of the 66 bridge consignment will be supplied by March 2012.
