Crown Agents workshop focuses on importance of building and maintaining public confidence to support delivery of sustainable pension schemes.
Crown Agents has concluded a five-day training workshop on delivering pension scheme sustainability at the Novotel, Accra. The workshop, attended by participants from Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda and Kenya, was officially closed at 12 noon on Friday, 27th May 2011 by Mr. Kwame Asante, Board Chairman of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority.
A growing demand for pensions training within Ghana is driven by the major challenges facing pension schemes. Generous benefit structures pose increasing burdens for government and private sector sponsors who strive to address this challenge against a background of limited investment choices, variable investment returns and the increasing cost of pensions as people live longer. Pension schemes need to remain sustainable and command public confidence that benefits will be paid to retired members. This interactive workshop visited the issues that challenge the sustainability of pensions provision and the roles, tasks and processes involved in governing and administering pension schemes to build and maintain public confidence.
It is expected that with a growing market for pensions administration, funding and governance in Ghana, Crown Agents, in collaboration with the Pensions Regulatory Authority and through its unique brand of practical training, will deliver a series of capacity development workshops for pension schemes, service providers and the NPRA over the next few years.
