Crown Agents' Total Revenue Integrated Processing System (trips™) tax system Registration module has been rolled out in Ghana as part of government efforts to boost revenue through improved tax collection.
In Ghana, six million people out of a population of 25 million are liable to pay tax but just 1.5 million people are currently making contributions, representing a huge area of growth for the government.
The trips™ tax product Registration module, which was implemented
on the 5th December 2011, will help to streamline tax collection in Ghana through improved integrity in the taxpayer register of all taxpayers in the country. The system supports modernisation and improved governance ensuring more accurate registration data collection for greater information integrity.
Crown Agents is sub-contracting to GCNet for the World Bank-funded e-Governance project in Ghana for the automation of the Domestic Tax Revenue Division (DTRD) of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
Over the past year, Crown Agents has delivered a series of Best Practice IT requirements workshops for key tax personnel within the newly-formed GRA, covering a comprehensive suite of tax modules from taxpayer accounting and risk analysis through to debt management.
Crown Agents' CPM senior project manager, Lucy Murnane, said that the implementation of the trips™ Registration module represents a huge milestone for the Ghana eGov Project and demonstrates Crown Agents' unwavering commitment to the project and to the government of Ghana.
"Crown Agents has gone the extra mile to assist our client, GCNet, and the government of Ghana with best international practice for implementing an integrated taxpayer management and revenue collection solution. As a company, we are unique in that we offer the combined services of IT and tax advisory support along with years of experience delivering sustainable tax IT projects in Africa and around the world," she said.
