An overarching public policy priority for most governments is to secure borders and the revenues derived from what moves across them. This is a key pre-requisite for generating the resources necessary to make progress towards broader social and economic development objectives. Our interventions with customs administrations throughout the world have had a significant impact on the revenue collected by our partners.
We have worked with the Angolan Government's Customs administration sine 2001 on a long-term expansion and modernisation programme. During this period, overall revenue receipts have increased at a dramatic rate - from US$215.45 million in 2000 to US$2,106 million in 2007.
In Macedonia, our efforts to enhance the institutional capacity of the Macedonian Customs Administration raised the average revenue yield on examined imports by almost 75% after the first year. Our Bulgarian client, the Ministry of Finance, saw an increase of approximately €1.3 billion of revenue over the first four years of Crown Agents' input.
Working in partnership with our clients, we combine our international experience with our clients' local knowledge to work with national customs and trade authorities to re-design processes and procedures to improve border management, and to simplify compliance for businesses and individuals. This enables effective regulatory and enforcement interventions to be made by the government agencies concerned, whilst also allowing legitimate traffic to flourish, enhancing a country's reputation for ease of doing business, stimulating trade and inward investment.
