Central Veterinary Diagnostic and Research Laboratory, Kabul, Afghanistan

Central Veterinary Diagnostic and Research LaboratoryCrown Agents managed the procurement of works and supervised construction of a new laboratory building and refurbishment of existing buildings at the Central Veterinary Diagnostic and Research Laboratory (CVDRL) complex in Kabul and at a Border Inspection Post at Kabul International Airport between 2007 and 2009 in Afghanistan.

The works are an integral part of the EC-funded Animal Health Development Programme in conjunction with the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock in Afghanistan. Research LaboratoryThe works were undertaken using Afghan contractors for the design and construction and included a new state-of-the-art laboratory and the complete rehabilitation of the existing laboratory, post mortem room, canteen, administration block, and other buildings, plus a new water borehole and storage tank, drainage, heating and hot water system.

At the same time Crown Agents also supervised another contractor in the construction of a veterinary Border Inspection Post at Kabul International Airport.

openingThe Border Inspection Post was completed in 2008, whilst the new and refurbishment works at the CVDRL were all completed and handed over to the Ministry Directorate and opened by His Excellency, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation & Livestock, Mohammad Asif Rahimi in November 2009. Crown Agents continues to manage the construction project during the Contractors 12 month defects liability period.
