Michael Naameh, director and chief investment officer of Crown Agents Investment Management, and Mike Byfield, regional director, Asia, attended the first Asian Development Bank/Singapore Monetary Authority Regional Forum on Investment Management of Foreign Exchange Reserves on 1st-3rd June 2011.
The Forum brought together central bank and ministry of finance representatives from 31 AsDB member countries in addition to reserve management specialists from other international organisations. The Forum's major themes focused on the global and regional economic outlook, Asian reserves management challenges, governance, risk management and capacity building.
Michael Naameh addressed the Forum on both risk management and capacity building policy issues. He highlighted the importance of adopting an asset-liability approach to risk management and the promising development of a more sophisticated class of risk models, which address major deficiencies in existing models, brought to light during the 2008-2009 global crisis.
On capacity development in the reserves management area, he stressed the need for placing more emphasis on team building and effective group decision-making under normal, volatile and crisis market conditions.
