Since the early 1990s Crown Agents has provided banking and financial services for on-going development projects, including those supported by the UK Department for International Development. We have also reformed procurement, supported the implementation of VAT and provided training courses.
In partnership with DFID, Crown Agents supported Sierra Leone's National Revenue Authority modernisation programme from 2005-2009 to reduce poverty and encourage economic growth.
We introduced VAT and established an integrated revenue management programme focusing on customs modernisation, domestic taxes and implementing a Goods and Services Tax (GST). We also implemented programmes for human resource and institutional development; tax payer information and education and consolidation of strategic management.
With the National Public Procurement Authority we also helped to reform procurement and bring transparency and consistency to procurement processes. The resulting Public Procurement Act 2004 was a milestone in the government's drive for sound financial management and poverty reduction.
