VAT implementation in Karnataka, India

Crown Agents supported a large scale project to implement VAT in the Indian state of Karnataka, in line with Central Government initiatives.

The programme involved the design of policy, preparation of legislation and regulations for the new tax, training and assistance to the audit function, including large dealer control, revenue forecasting and the setting of tax rates. Training in VAT skills for 1,200 professional staff was delivered through a Crown Agents training of trainers programme.

The new tax was implemented using Crown Agents VIPS© computerised VAT processing system.
