Procurement support to rehabilitate Iraqi schools

Procurement Management Consulting Services

Ministry of Education, Iraq | 2007 - Ongoing

Universal primary education in Iraq is a step closer following a project to rehabilitate and build new primary and secondary schools. The Iraqi education ministry, with procurement advice from Crown Agents, has so far opened 12 new schools (out of 32 being built under phase I) in various governorates throughout Iraq.

Crown Agents provides procurement management consulting services to a project management team within the education ministry. The team plans and coordinates all project activities including procurement.

Our team advised and trained staff in managing procurement according to World Bank guidelines. The project management team now has the capacity to procure

  • goods such as office and schools furniture and equipment, computers, software, office supplies, and vehicles
  • works such as rehabilitation and construction of schools
  • consulting services such as training of MOE staff, and design and supervision of schools construction.

The Iraqi Trust, administered by the World Bank, funded the Emergency School Construction Rehabilitation Project (ESCRP). IDA provided credit for the "Third Emergency Educational Project (TEEP)".
