Preventing malaria in Tanzania

Population Services International (PSI) is a major social marketing organization and plays an important role in the prevention of malaria in many countries. Based on similar Department for International Development (DFID) funded work we carried out in Kenya, PSI requested Crown Agents' assistance to procure and deliver bednet treatment chemicals in Tanzania.

PSI source the bednets from manufacturers in Tanzania and needed to be assured of consistent supplies of treatment chemicals which are distributed with the nets throughout Tanzania. Through Crown Agents Nairobi office's relationship with the manufacturers, future requirement plans from PSI and our local experience of clearance procedures we have assisted PSI in streamlining this process. Distribution of bednets is an integral part of the fight against malaria - one of the deadliest diseases on the continent. The protection afforded against mosquito bites, especially for children, by bednets is a huge benefit to Tanzania.
