Improving transport in rural African communities
Africa Community Access Programme
Department for International Development (DFID) | 2008 - 2013
Reliable access to basic services as well as social and economic opportunities is essential for rural communities in Africa. Unreliable and difficult access reduces growth opportunities and negate the benefits from investments in other sectors.
The Africa Community Access Programme (AFCAP) aims to improve sustainable access to economic and social opportunities for poor rural communities. A portfolio of research, demonstration, advisory and training projects will identify and support the uptake of low cost, proven solutions for rural access that maximise the use of local resources. Research outputs will feed directly into regional and national rural transport policies and strategies for poverty reduction.
AFCAP is funded by the Department for International Development (DFID), who has contracted Crown Agents as AFCAP's Core Management Group. Crown Agents is providing programme management, technical, procurement, legal, banking and financial management services to AFCAP.
