Improving health spending in Pakistan
National Health Facility Procurement Capacity Building Project
Ministry of Health and Ministry of Population and Welfare | 2004 - Ongoing
As part of its support to the Government of Pakistan's Poverty Reduction Strategy, DFID is providing assistance to the National Health and Population Welfare Facilities. In order to meet health care objectives and to safeguard funds provided through direct budgetary support, Crown Agents has been providing assistance to improve effectiveness in expenditure on primary health care.
Starting with a diagnostic review of procurement systems in the Federal Ministries of Health and Population Welfare, we then implemented a number of measures to strengthen procurement capacity. Key achievements have included the preparation of a new manual of procedures with standard bidding documents and the delivery of a programme of on-the-job and workshop training. Building on this work and recognising the importance of the entire supply chain, Crown Agents recently completed a diagnostic review of supply management systems for the two ministries to service delivery point.
