Helping rebuild the education sector in Mozambique
Education Sector Support Programme
Danish International Development Agency | 2004 - 2006
The geographic shape and size of Mozambique presents a number of challenges as regards local (provincial) supply, maintenance and support. There is sometimes a tendency to become "Maputo-centric" based in the comfort of the capital city in the south when the "real" Mozambique in the central and northern regions have different obstacles and difficulties to overcome.
For the three key Danish International Development Agency (Danida) provinces, Cabo Delgado, Tete and Zambezia, Crown Agents has placed 26 orders for air conditioners, books, diaries, IT equipment, office and classroom equipment/furniture, plastic storage boxes, software and vehicles. We have also ordered safes for Tete from a supplier based in the same province. Some of the logistical demands of getting product to the three provinces have been challenging and the procurement process has required innovative solutions in trying to obtain transportation quotes to certain parts of these provinces.
In keeping with Danida 's policy we are building capacity and developing local industry. A series of provincial visits to undertake supplier workshops has helped to better understand these problems so we can empathise better with project personnel.
