Fighting malaria in Nigeria

Global Fund Anti-Malaria Programme

Yakubu Gowon Center for National Unity (YGC) | 2005 - Ongoing

Bednets, Tanzania

The Yakubu Gowon Centre for National Unity and International Development is the Principal Recipient for Global Fund Round four funding to fight malaria in Nigeria. To date Crown Agents has supplied 2.75 million bednets. Additionally, 16.1 million treatments of the anti-malarial drug, Coartem, have been purchased.

This project was affected by changing customs regulations and the need to secure the necessary waivers for importation to Nigeria, but both these factors were handled efficiently to enable deliveries to be made. We have also helped develop capacity within the staff of the Yakubu Gowon Centre so that they are able to undertake the distribution of the nets and drugs in the future.
