In September 1994, Crown Agents Singapore was appointed by Population Services International (PSI) Cambodia to provide procurement assistance for the supply of condoms for the Birth Spacing and Aids Prevention project in Cambodia funded by DFID.
To ensure that the Cambodian consumers continue to benefit from DFID support in birth spacing and in checking the spread of HIV diseases, we continued to work closely with DFID and PSI to procure, inspect and deliver condoms under subsequent projects including the Social Marketing of Contraceptives and the five-year Support to PSI Cambodia for Social Marketing of Condoms, Phase 1.
A second five-year project, Support to PSI Cambodia for Social Marketing Condom, Phase 2, was awarded to Crown Agents Singapore in 2001. This project, with a DFID budget of £2.5 million, included the supply of 81 million "Number One" male condoms as well as female condoms. In addition, Crown Agents worked closely with PSI Cambodia to develop a new condom foil design ("OK" condoms) to cater to a different group of consumers in Cambodia.
