Debt managers, economists and analysts from Nigeria, Solomon Islands, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia recently attended thought-provoking course in Kuala Lumpur. They explored how the liberalised environment has created opportunities as well as risks for debt management, and participants discussed how the existing debt management framework should be adapted to handle such changes.
The workshop was highly interactive and stimulated a high level of debate. Participants shared and learnt from each other's experiences as well as the extensive experience of our international debt management experts. Coordination and information sharing are of course in themselves important for addressing policy dilemmas presented by liberalisation.
This timely course was successful in providing attendees with tools for the future. One participant concluded: "The course has brought out fundamental issues that arise in a liberalised environment and require addressing...it is an eye opener for me and my country as we are far from starting the process".
