Our work with Japan
Crown Agents established offices in Japan in the 1960s so that our clients could take advantage of the rapid rise of Japanese manufacturers.
We became a procurement agent under Japan's Non Project Grant Aid Programme (NPGA) in 1987, and since then have worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan International Cooperation Agency, Japan Bank for International Cooperation and Japan International Cooperation System.
Our work reflects Japan's development philosophy of self-help, ownership by recipient countries, 'Human Security' and support for economic growth and the private sector. Activities range from supporting SMEs in Africa to maintaining power generation in Pakistan, and reducing environmental risk through decommissioning nuclear powered submarines.
Our role draws on our mix of skills in procurement, supply logistics, programme and project management, banking and financial and economic risk analysis.
Since 1987, we have managed over 150 NPGA projects with a total value of ¥199 billion.
