What do you do?
As the Knowledge Manager I work with individuals and business areas to facilitate the sharing of information and knowledge across the organisation. I make sure that it is quick and easy for every employee to find the information they need to work effectively and I encourage staff to share their knowledge and expertise as well as successes and lessons learned. I work closely with Crown Agents IT department to develop and maintain tools that facilitate this. I am responsible for one such tool, Crown Agents intranet, which is available to all staff worldwide and provides a one stop shop for news, information and business tools.
What have you enjoyed most?
I've enjoyed completing a couple of knowledge management projects in the last year. The first involved creating a marketing database for use by the Commercial Training department and the second involved the launch of a new organisation-wide "yellow pages" listing all Crown Agents staff. The listing allowed staff to create their own profiles for the first time and encouraged a wider sharing of knowledge and expertise across the organisation.
Why do you enjoy working for CA?
The fact that as an organisation we are making a key difference in many countries and that, in a very small way, I'm contributing to that difference gives me considerable satisfaction. I enjoy the variety of my job, no two days are ever the same and that I get to interact with colleagues from right across the organisation. I enjoy making it possible for people to be able to access information or knowledge, particulalry if it's something that they didn't know existed and which changes the way they work.
