Knowledge Manager

United Kingdom

1. What do you do?

I work with individuals and business areas to facilitate information and knowledge sharing across Crown Agents. I ensure information is easily accessible and encourage staff to share their knowledge and expertise including the lessons learnt from bid processes. I work closely with Crown Agents' IT Department to develop and maintain tools that facilitate collaboration. I am part of a team creating a user-friendly Client Relationship Management (CRM) tool that enhances how we capture and share knowledge about our clients and partners. I am also responsible for the Crown Agents intranet, which is available to all staff worldwide and provides news, information and business tools. Later in 2011 we will be transferring the intranet to a SharePoint platform, which will provide improved functionality and encourage more effective collaboration.

2. What have you enjoyed most?

I've enjoyed completing a couple of knowledge management projects. The first involved creating a marketing database for the Commercial Training department and the second involved the launch of an organisation-wide "yellow pages" listing all Crown Agents staff.

3. Where have you travelled while working at Crown Agents and why?

I have visited our offices in Kenya, Zimbabwe and Nigeria in order to get to know some of our overseas staff and identify any barriers that might impede knowledge-sharing with the head office. I also gathered feedback on our corporate intranet and created relationship maps to chart the flow of information, ideas and support between these offices and the rest of Crown Agents.

4. Why do you enjoy working for CA?

The fact that as an organisation we are making a key difference in many countries and, in a very small way, I'm contributing to that difference gives me considerable satisfaction. I enjoy the variety of my job - no two days are ever the same. I could be editing an article for the intranet, facilitating a lessons learnt review, training a colleague on the new CRM system or contributing to a discussion on the next steps in our knowledge management strategy.
